Berwick Rangers vs Caledonian Braves

W 0 - 2

The Caledonian Braves recorded an invaluable three points this weekend, when we secured a 0-2 victory away to Berwick Rangers.

Goals from Cammy Breadner and Ross McNeil over each half was enough to bring us a second win over the Wee Gers this season.

Coming into the game, Robbie Stewart dropped out through injury and was replaced by Jack Brown, coming back for his first game in over a month after overcoming a broken arm.

Broony stepped into left-back, to augment a strong back four, with Archie Graham stepping to right-back. That allowed Aiden Clocherty to push onto the wing in the place of Kian Speirs, seeing Greig Stewart come back into the heart of our defence, where he put in a man of the match performance alongside Dan Martins.

Berwick came out to the stronger start in the game, with their best chance coming after just three minutes. An inswinging corner was well met by Joe Ellison, whose low header was destined for the bottom corner. However, Bernie White was quick accross his line to parry the ball to safety.

After a strong 10 minutes for Berwick, the Braves settled into the game and put in an extremely comfortable performance for the remaining 80 minutes.

Ross McNeil would have our first chance of the game, when he lashed wide with a first time attempt from a cross.

However, our best threat proved to be coming down the wings, with Aiden Clocherty and Cammy Breadner finding space in transition. And it was the latter who would break the deadlock after 33 minutes.

Cammy picked up the ball on the left from McNeil and drove forward into space. As the winger approached the box, he opened up and struck a shot across the keeper which bounced low into the far right corner. Cammy Breander 0-1!

As the second half pressed on, Berwick continued to fail to test the goal of White. At the other end, the Braves pushed for a second to kill the game off.

Breadner once again came close after a powerful right footed strike was kept out by Antell at the near post. From the resulting corner, Dan Martins sent a bullet header goalwards, however Antell fell backwards to tip over with a superb stop down the middle of his goal.

However, he would soon be picking the ball out the back of his net.

With 83 minutes on the clock, Breadner once again found space down the left channel, before smashing an effort goalwards with his left foot. With the 'keeper beat, the ball richochted off the bar, however Ross McNeil was in the right place to smartly adjust his feet and head home into the open goal.

This proved to kill any hope of a late comeback, as the Caley Braves came back up the road with an richly earned three points!

We have a free weekend ahead, however will return when we travel to face Queen of the South in the Sothern Counties Cup on Tuesday, April 2nd at 7:30pm.
