Cup run comes to unexpected end

The Braves suffered a 3-2 loss away to Vale of Clyde, in a back and forth cup tie that required extra time. 

Kian Speirs had put the Braves in front with his first goal of the season after 10 minutes, with a low powerful strike. However, our West of Scotland 1st Division opposition would recover strongly in the remainder of the half.

An equaliser would follow in the 30th minute, before a penalty was awarded to give the Tin Pail an opportunity to take the lead. Back in goal for the afternoon, Kyle King gussed right and made a great save to keep the score level.

But in the 60th minute, Vale of Clyde would take their first lead. Impressive left-back Ryan Cherrie picked up the ball off a slack pass, before unleashing a left footed rocket from over 30 yards. An effort that gave King no chance.

With elimination looming, Lennon Walker would level up the scores with a low, curling shot that forced extra time.

However, a sucker punch would arrive with Cherrie tapped home following a corner kick goalmouth stramash with over 100 minutes on the clock.

Daniel Martins and Leo McCartney would force superb late stops out of Craig Gordon in the dying embers, but couldn't find a way past the opposition number 1.
