Gemmell joins as first signing of the summer

30th June 2023

Caledonian Braves are delighted to announce the signing of highly rated young forward Josh Gemmell, upon his contract expiration at Greenock Morton.

Signing a one-year contract at Alliance Park, Gemmell is the first in a series of acquisitions by the Braves, as we continue our pre-season preparations ahead of the 2023/24 Lowland League season.

Discussing what attracted Josh to the Braves, he explained: “the gaffer {Ricky Waddell} came across really well... training multiple days a week is helping me develop, and being in the first-team will be brilliant for me as a player.”

“I’m a striker, I’m hungry, and I can’t wait to get going.”

Gemmell spent last season on loan at fellow Lowland League club Broomhill FC, where he netted on his senior debut against Edinburgh University.

The 18-year-old striker also featured prominently for Broomhill’s development side, scoring 29 goals across all competitions, crowning a prolific campaign with victory in the Knockout East Cup over East Kilbride under-23's in May.

Manager Ricky Waddell was delighted at the club’s capture of the talented young striker.

“I watched Josh a few times last season while he was with Broomhill”. “He’s a good goalscorer, links the game really well and I’m expecting big things from him.”

Everyone at Caledonian Braves would like to warmly welcome Josh to the club, wishing him all the best during his time with us!
