First Team

A fresh start

17th July 2021

The last two years has been extremely challenging for most football clubs and we’re no different. Since we launched the app and moved into Alliance Park, the covid pandemic has hit hard and our hopes of gaining momentum with the project took a real blow.

For two consecutive years, the season was halted prematurely meaning that it was extremely difficult for us to grow the project in the way we initially had hoped. As a new club, it has been challenging to maintain and develop a fanbase with a lack of football and opportunities to create content.

That being said, there have been positives and I have learned a lot about myself and the club during these difficult times. We also have over 1,700 people around the world who have downloaded our app which is extremely encouraging given the circumstances. In the last week we have had downloads in Australia, USA and Brazil !

We have been working hard behind the scenes to build a backroom staff that can help create content and assist with different elements of running the club. We have added three youth teams to our U19s who did so well last year as we look to underline our commitment to the local community and provide a real pathway and inspiration to our local players.

David Winters has made the bold step from player to assistant manager and already his positive attitude and warm personality has made an impact on the squad. I am very encouraged by our recruitment during the close season. With limited budget and resources, our strategy was to recruit young, hungry players, perhaps some with a point to prove, full of energy and pace. Where we may lack in experience, we will certainly make up with enthusiasm and ambition.

This afternoon will see the start of a new chapter for the club as we embark on the upcoming season with a fresh, youthful new look squad and a renewed optimism and positivity for what lies ahead.

It has been a long time coming, but I now feel that we are on the right track and we will continue to work hard on and off the park to improve all areas of the club and grow our community.

So here’s to an exciting an enjoyable season, hopefully with more ups than downs, as we continue on our journey.

Respect All, Fear None.
