January Ends with a Trip to Tranent!

25th January 2024

And just like that, the first month of 2024 will come to an end when we travel to face Tranent FC on Saturday afternoon!

The Lowland League clash will be a 3pm kick-off at Foresters Park, so let's take a deeper look into this one...

Opposition insight

Playing their games out of East Lothian, Tranent FC were renamed at the start of the 2023/24 season, following a merger between Tranent Juniors and Tranent Colts.

Last season, Tranent finished in 5th position, despite it being their first season in the Lowland League following promotion from the East of Scotland Premier Division.

This year, 'The Belters' once again sit in 5th position, however are just three points off second and twelve off top, with two games in hand.

With talented attackers such as Broque Watson and former Kilmarnock man Kallum Higginbotham within their ranks, Tranent are capable of bagging goals, as shown in their incredible 7-0 victory over East Kilbride in the Scottish Cup back in November.

Braves form

The Caley Braves come into the game sitting in 11th position, with 28 points after 24 games.

We started the year with an impressive 0-0 draw away to East Kilbride, which was followed up by a 1-1 draw at home to Albion Rovers last weekend - highlights here.

Last weekend, we were due to begin our retention of the Southern Counties Challenge Cup, however the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Previous meeting

A four thriller would greet us at Alliance Park when these two sides last met back in November, with the score finishing 2-2.

After taking the lead in the first half, the Braves would be penned back by two quickfire Tranent goals in the early exchanges of the second half.

But better late than never for the Braves, who equalised through a thumping last-gasp goal by Greig Stewart. Highlights from that one can be seen at the link here.
