Key Trio Secure New Contracts!

15th March 2024

Although we may have a number of games left in the 2023/24 season, our preparations for next campaign have taken a major boost this week!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that three crucial players have extended their contracts at the club, until the end of next season.

The trio to extend their deals are goalkeeper Bernie White, team captain John Guthrie and midfielder, Greig Stewart:

The American shot-stopper joined the club in early 2022 and quickly established himself as our number one. This season, Bernie, 23, has kicked on and has put together an unbelievable highlight reel of saves, over his 35 appearances!

After announcing his deal, Bernie said: "Coming over here the Braves gave me a great opportunity. I feel like I’ve found a great place to play and I’m really happy here right now.

"I’ve gotten a grasp of how the game is over here – there's always going to be good days and there’s always going to be bad days – but I feel like overall I’ve got up to speed and it’s a good level of competition over here.

"There’s a lot more to grow to in this team and a long way to go for a lot of guys, so it’s exciting to be a part of that!"

John is our longest serving player, having joined the club in 2019. Taking on the armband at the start of the season, the combative midfielder has led the team out on 36 occasions, starting every league game.

A beacon of consistency in our midfield, we're delighted to welcome the 24-year-old into his fifth season with the club.

John told BravesTV: "It’s been brilliant captaining the side. It’s been an up and down season but we can definitely kick on next season.

"The last few seasons were dead tough for me with injuries, so this full season has been excellent. There’s so much faith from the gaffer and he knows me inside out.

"Everyone can improve next season and we really need to push on and try to get higher up the league."

And last but certainly not least is midfield enforcer, Greig Stewart. At the age of 21, Greig has also contented with a number of unfortunate injuries, but has still racked up an impressive 30 appearances this campaign.

Greig has showed his versatility this season, starting as a number 10, 8 and 6 across our midfield, before slotting in alongside Dan Martins in the heart of our defence.

After penning his deal, Greig said: "I've been really enjoying it so far and it’s good to get another season under my belt. It’s about being comfortable, so I don’t need to worry about that now and can just focus on my football.

"I was struggling the last few seasons with injuries, but having that decent run and getting a bit of consistency going has been really good for my performances.

"I just want to stay injury free and play as many games as I can. The more games you play the more confident you get and I feel like we can definitely kick on and hopefully push up the leagues!"
